Midwest Music Expo (MmX) Returns to ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ University on May 4

The seventh edition of the event celebrates music and everything related to it.

DECATUR -- ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ University will host the seventh edition of the annual  on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in the University Commons. 

The Expo will feature speakers, artists and vendors from all over the Midwest and is produced by ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ University Music Business students. MmX is curated by Grammy Award-winning punk rocker Martin Atkins, ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ School of Music Instructor and Coordinator of the Music Business program.

In his long career in the music business, Atkins has headlined events across the country, playing with such bands as Public Image Ltd, Killing Joke, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, and his own supergroup Pigface, which Revolver Magazine has ranked among the top 12 Greatest Supergroups. The English drummer and session musician is an honorary board member of the Chicago-based nonprofit organization Rock For Kids, and in 2022, he was inducted as a fellow of In Place Of War by legendary musician and producer Brian Eno.

Anyone interested in making music, art, or gaining insight on creative entrepreneurship, MmX is for you! Singers, songwriters, musicians, producers, DJs, managers, podcasters, bloggers, designers, artists – from amateurs to pros, there will be something for all! 

MmX is a celebration of music and everything related to it, from musicians' artistry and creativity to the technical aspects of producing and distributing music. The Expo is designed to provide a platform for music industry professionals, artists, and fans to network, learn, and connect through panel discussions, workshops, live music performances, and more.

Attendees will be able to hear from industry experts on topics such as music marketing, production, mental health and wellness, the intersection of tech and music, and more.

The , the Chicago museum founded by Atkins, was recently named the Best Museum in Chicago by the readers of the Chicago Reader.

The PPIM finished first in the Best Museum category of the alternative newspapers’ annual , ahead of The Art Institute of Chicago and the National Museum of Mexican Art, as the first and second runners-up, respectively. 

The Museum of Post Punk and Industrial Music (PPIM) opened in 2021 and includes important artifacts and memorabilia, many from Atkin’s collection, that celebrate post punk and industrial music.
